Academic Honor Code

LRHS Academic Honor Code 2013-14

To promote a stronger sense of Leadership, Respect, Honesty, and Scholarshipamong all members of Loch Raven High School, and with the desire for greater academic and personal achievement, we, the members of _____________________ class, have set forth the following code of honor with regards to academic dishonesty:

 

I.This Honor Code deals specifically with cheatingand attempted cheating, plagiarism, lying, and stealing.

    A. Cheating encompasses the following:

               1.The willful giving or receiving of an unauthorized, unfair, dishonest, or deceitful advantage in academic work over other students.

               2.The above may be accomplished by any means whatsoever, including but not limited to the following: fraud; threat; deception; theft; trick; talking; signs;  

                  gestures; copying from another student; and the unauthorized use of study aids, memoranda, books, data, or other information.

               3.Attempted cheating.

 

    B. Plagiarism encompasses the following:

               1. Presenting as one's own the words, the work, the ideas, or the opinions of someone else without proper acknowledgment.

               2.Borrowing the sequence of ideas, the arrangement of material, or the pattern of thought of someone else without proper acknowledgment.

 

    C. Lying encompasses the following:

               The willful and knowledgeable telling of an untruth, omission of pertinent information, as well as any form of deceit, attempted deceit, or fraud in an oral or

               written statement relating to academic work.

 

D. Stealing encompasses the following:

 

              Taking or appropriating without the permission to do so, and with the intent to keep or to make use of wrongfully, property belonging to any member of Loch

              Raven High School or any property located on school grounds. This includes misuse of school computer as well as print resources (see the Student Behavior

              Handbook).

 

II.Consequences for violating the standards addressed in the Honor Code above are as follows:

  1. A violation of the cheating policy may result in any or all of the following actions:

    1. Zero on the assignment.

    2. Administrative referral.

    3. Removal or disqualification from consideration to Honor Societies.

    4. Parent Contact.

  2. A violation of the plagiarism policy may result in any or all of the following actions:

    1. Zero on the assignment.

    2. Administrative referral.

    3. Removal or disqualification from consideration to Honor Societies.

    4. Parent Contact.

  3. A violation of the lying policy may result in any or all of the following actions:

    1. Administrative referral.

    2. Removal or disqualification from consideration to Honor Societies.

    3. Parent Contact.

  4. A violation of the stealing policy will result in the following actions:

    1. Administrative referral.

    2. Removal or disqualification from consideration to Honor Societies.

    3. Parent Contact.
